ARTNOVATION DIGITAL MUSEUM
Visitor Charter
Enter with curiosity. Experience with respect.
Leave with the memory.
ARTNOVATION Digital Museum is a living digital institution dedicated to the presentation, preservation and exploration of African creativity and its continuing dialogue with the world.
Within ARTNOVATION, artworks are not simply images displayed on a screen. They are cultural, intellectual and creative works entrusted to a protected environment for viewing and experience.
This Charter explains what it means to enter that environment as a visitor.
01 — WELCOME TO ARTNOVATION
ARTNOVATION invites visitors to discover curated worlds, encounter artists and their ideas, explore exhibitions, experience individual works and engage with the stories, histories and perspectives surrounding them.
Your access is an invitation to experience the museum. It is not a transfer of ownership or reproduction rights.
02 — YOUR VISIT
As an authorized visitor, you may explore the museum and its curated worlds, view available artworks, read accompanying materials, save permitted works to your personal collection, and use the available features for discovery, engagement and acquisition inquiry.
Depending on the artwork, exhibition or access level, additional experiences may be available, including private viewing requests and other forms of authorized engagement.
ARTNOVATION is a living collection.
03 — THE ARTWORK REMAINS PROTECTED
Many works presented within ARTNOVATION are protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights belonging to their artists, creators, galleries, collectors or other rights holders.
Your permission to view an artwork does not grant permission to:
- download or extract the artwork;
- reproduce, print or publish the artwork;
- commercially exploit the artwork;
- create unauthorized derivative works;
- redistribute the artwork;
- use the artwork in another collection, platform or publication; or
- otherwise use the artwork beyond the permissions expressly provided by ARTNOVATION or the relevant rights holder.
Where a work is available for acquisition or licensed use, the applicable rights will be communicated separately.
04 — PROTECTED VIEWING
ARTNOVATION may employ technical and visual measures designed to protect sensitive artworks, including controlled image delivery, access authentication, watermarking, restricted functionality, session controls and screenshot protections where technically available.
These measures exist to protect the work and its creator while preserving an elegant viewing experience for the visitor.
No digital system can guarantee that an artwork cannot be photographed or otherwise copied by an individual using an external device. ARTNOVATION therefore combines technological protection with rights management, traceability and responsible visitor conduct.
05 — EXPERIENCE, DON'T EXTRACT
See the artwork. Experience the artwork. But don't receive the artwork.
The purpose of protected viewing is not to restrict appreciation. It is to ensure that appreciation does not become unauthorized reproduction.
Visitors are encouraged to spend time with the work, explore its context, understand its story, discover its creator and return to it through their personal collection.
06 — SAVING TO YOUR COLLECTION
Where permitted, visitors may save artworks to My Collection. Saving an artwork means saving a reference to the work within your ARTNOVATION experience. It does not constitute ownership of the artwork or grant reproduction rights.
A saved work remains subject to the rights and permissions established by the artist, rights holder and ARTNOVATION.
07 — ACQUISITION & PRIVATE VIEWING
An Acquisition Inquiry is an expression of interest, not an automatic purchase or transfer of ownership.
A Private View is a request for an authorized viewing experience and may be subject to availability, authentication, curatorial approval and the requirements of the relevant artist, gallery, collector or rights holder.
Where applicable, the terms of any acquisition, licensing arrangement or physical viewing will be communicated separately.
08 — ARTIST & RIGHTS-HOLDER RESPECT
Every artwork presented within ARTNOVATION represents the creative labour, intellectual property and cultural contribution of its creator and, where applicable, its rights holders.
Attribution should not be removed, obscured or altered where it forms part of the presentation. No visitor should imply ownership, authorship, endorsement or affiliation that does not exist.
09 — CULTURAL & INTELLECTUAL RESPECT
ARTNOVATION presents works that may emerge from different cultures, histories, traditions, identities and perspectives. Visitors are encouraged to approach each work with curiosity, openness and respect.
Interpretation may differ between visitors. The museum exists not only to present answers, but also to create space for observation, reflection, dialogue and discovery.
10 — PRIVACY & RESPONSIBLE ACCESS
Information collected in connection with access, collections, inquiries, private views or other services will be handled in accordance with ARTNOVATION's applicable privacy practices.
Visitors should keep their access credentials secure and should not provide authorized access to another person. Access may be limited, suspended or withdrawn where necessary to protect the museum, its visitors, artworks, systems or rights holders.
11 — A LIVING COLLECTION
Exhibitions may change. Rooms may open and close. Works may become temporarily unavailable. New artists and collections may enter the museum.
The collection you encounter today may not be exactly the collection you encounter tomorrow.
12 — OUR SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
ARTNOVATION is responsible for creating a protected environment in which creativity can be experienced. Visitors are responsible for respecting that environment.
By entering protected areas of ARTNOVATION, visitors acknowledge that access is provided for authorized viewing and engagement and agree to respect the intellectual property, privacy, cultural integrity and usage restrictions associated with the museum and its works.
THE ARTNOVATION PRINCIPLE
ARTNOVATION exists to make creativity accessible without making it disposable.
We believe that technology should not diminish the value of an artwork by turning it into an endlessly reproducible file. Instead, technology can create a new kind of encounter: protected, immersive, contextual and alive.
The collection is living.
The experience is yours.
The artwork remains protected.
